Sunny Sweeney Sets U.K. Debut

**Latest Lomax Discovery at Luminaire 7/7/7**

AUSTIN — Texas honkytonk sensation Sunny Sweeney and her scorching band kick off her first European tour Saturday, July 7 at London’s prestigious Luminaire.

She will introduce the new band, led by guitarist (and Orkney Island native) Craig Smith and also featuring Geoffrey Cowan, James Willis and Luke Ayres.

Sweeney’s initial CD, HEARTBREAKERS HALL OF FAME, a self-released project, was licensed by red-hot Nashville indie Big Machine Records and re-released — all the music intact — on March 2. Since then, Sweeney, 30, has played the Grand Ole Opry, headlined a C.M.A. Music Festival Stage, earned features in several U. K. country magazines, headlined at Billy Bob’s Texas, “the world’s largest honkytonk” and enjoyed national BBC radio exposure via Bob Harris.

“She is SO country, so far on the traditional side, so Loretta Lynn-ish, she’d be considered an alternative artist in many markets,”. Lomax said.

That’s John Lomax III, nephew of the late, renowned folklorist Alan Lomax. This Lomax previously helmed the careers of Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, The Cactus Brothers and Kasey Chambers. He avers Sweeney has that special magic that separates great artists from the pack.

“There is a quality in Sunny’s voice that oozes into your soul. She’s the antidote to the processed-cheese-bad ’80s soft rock Nashville tries to market as country music,”. The Tommy Detamore & Tom Lewis-produced CD, was cut in Texas, outside San Antonio.

After her 7/7/7 Luminaire debut Sweeney will do an acoustic taping with Bob Harris at 12:10 a.m. on Sunday the 8th, then headline at the 28th annual Americana-International Festival that afternoon. She and her band then embark on a week of club and festival shows, concluding with July 14 & 15 appearances at the Larmer Tree Festival and GuilFest. She and the band will also be featured performers at festivals in Norway, Ireland Sweden and France. later in he summer.

Sweeney’s U.K. bookings are handled by Bob Paterson of BPA Live. Tour logistics coordinated by Gus Douglas of Tour Management Services.

Sweeney is currently seeking a U. K. label.
