The Bicycle Music Company Acquires Historic Dwight Yoakam Catalogue

Nashville, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Rhino/ WEA Records) – The Bicycle Music Company has acquired Dwight Yoakam’s Coal Dust West Music catalogue of songs, it was announced today. The catalogue spans nearly two decades of Gold and Platinum albums for Warner/Reprise Records, including 11 BMI award winning hit songs, such as ‘Guitars, Cadillacs,’ ‘A Thousand Miles From Nowhere,’ and ‘Fast As You.’

Yoakam’s stripped-down approach to traditional honky-tonk is credited with helping to return country music to its roots. The two-time Grammy award winner has released 18 albums, sold more than 23 million albums worldwide and amassed a rich catalogue of songs. In addition to penning his own hits, Yoakam has written with such music legends as Roger Miller, Mick Jagger, Earl Scruggs, Buck Owens and others, and his songs have been covered by artists such as Deanna Carter, Gillian Welch, Kim Richey, Ralph Stanley, Billy Bob Thornton, Sara Evans, Pete Droge and others.

Dwight Yoakam: ‘Jake Wisely and his colleagues at Bicycle Music exhibited such a profoundly passionate and tenaciously earnest desire to acquire the rights to my Coal Dust West song catalogue, that I felt they could be trusted as completely with its care and stewardship as anybody I could ever envision controlling the publisher’s aspects of the catalogue beyond myself. I am excited and filled with great anticipation about the opportunity we have to work together in striking out and forging new pathways for the songs’ future musical journeys, and I appreciate the enormous respect they have shown for my music in making this acquisition.’

‘It’s an incredible privilege to be working with an icon such as Dwight,’ says Bicycle Co-President Jake Wisely. ‘His legacy of songs has crossed over so many musical and territorial divides, making him a rare spirit in Country music. The Coal Dust West Music catalogue is one-of-a-kind, with Platinum hits that are ripe for resurgence and overlooked gems that are ready to be discovered.’

‘We are proud to represent Dwight’s great songs at a time when legendary artists are looked upon as society’s touchstones. He is a creator of timeless music that will become even more appreciated and valued in the future,’ adds Allan J. Tepper, Bicycle’s President and Chief Creative Officer.

In addition to his successful music career, Yoakam has acted in films such as ‘Sling Blade,’ ‘Wedding Crashers,’ ‘Panic Room,’ and ‘Red Rock West.’ In 2001, Yoakam made his directorial and writing debut with ‘South of Heaven, West of Hell.’ He also starred in the film and wrote and recorded the accompanying soundtrack.
